Momma Hen Rough!!!!

So they are in a brooder box Mom and 7 new baby chicks!

She literally buried them when she scratches and covers the food and waterer! Sometimes accidentally kicks them while scratching

Other then that she cuddles them and shows them food etc

I do plan to give them access to outside but the weather has not helped

Is this to crazy or I need to stop worrying lol

She also grabbed a chick moved it by the back of its body

Can you raise your feeder and waterer on blocks to minimize debris. I used a piece of 2x6 board to keep chicks from tipping waterer.

Hens will end up getting the chicks, regardless of the amount room, during dustbathing.

The chicks will quickly learn to stay away from mom's scratchy feet, but they do need room to get out of the way. Her behaviors are typical of an excellent broody hen.

Agree she needs a little bit more space. She sounds like a great mama hen. Her chicks will learn to stay close but not too close.

I currently have food and water elevated you just can’t see it lol Mom went wild scratching! Chicks were right behind watching and helping but they get so close it makes me panic!

Okay! They seem to move very quick for their little bodies! Running for their life then right back like hey Mom what you found! I worry so much! Lol
