Ok first off I was at our local TSC looking at the new arrivals and this man is there with his 1-2 year old son. He was buying him a chick for Easter.

He didn't know what kind to get so I asked him what he was looking for in a chicken. He replies..."it really doesn't matter with him (pointing to his son) it won't last long anyway"

So being the soft heart I am I gave him my phone number and told him to call me when he was ready to "get rid" of it. Why do some people do that? Makes me angry.

Now while at TSC there was NOONE there to help me with the chicks or anyone that knew anything. So I have NO idea what breed I got. Which is ok because I already have 4 egg layers so if these turn out to be "mutts" they will just be added entertainment for me.

I am posting pics and forgive me for the quality. I am hoping that someone can enlighten me on what breed they are.

And oh they have what seems like a "bump" on there chests. Not sure if I should be concerned or not. All 4 of them have this.

The first one looks like it could be a welsummer and the second a wyandotte? maybe?

Looks a lot like my easter egger chicken looked like at that age. Then again, I'm no expert. Do they have lots of extra fluff on their cheeks? If so, definitely EEs.

no extra fluffys on the cheeks. I also have one all black one beek and feet as well.

Their legs are dark? If their legs were pink, I'd say Welsummer. If they're dark, they could be EEs, but I'd expect to see EEs having a variation to their appearance. A specific "breed" will have consistent markings on all the birds. EEs all look a bit different and a lot of them have the chipmunk appearance.

It'll be easier to tell when they're older, in a few months.

Congrats on your babies!

The 3 "chipmunk" looking ones have light legs. The all black one has black legs. Here is a little better pic of them.
