OK, in all the years we've had chickens, we have only had two others with crop problems. One was years ago, and she died quickly. The other one only had impacted crop for two days; shemade a speedy recovery after treatment and is back with the flock.
Then we have Millicent. She's 4 1/2 years old. She had impacted/ sour crop in February...plus a respiratory infection, probably from inhaling fluid from her crop. We brought her inside, treated her for both, and she did seem to make a full recovery after about three weeks. She went back out with the flock, and was fine for awhile.
Now, about ten days ago, she has developed crop issues again. She has gone from sour crop to impacted crop to doughy crop to sour crop....
We treated her with Nystatin, which worked well for the sour crop. Nothing worked for the impacted crop except stool softener, water, and crop massage. Then it turned into doughy crop, so we treated with the lemon juice, cayenne, cinnamon, etc formula. It worked pretty well for the doughy crop, but now she has doughy crop AND sour crop again! So should we treat her with the lemon juice formula, or Nystatin, or both? I have ordered ACS and it is on the way. I have read that works pretty well especially to correct other possible issues, which I'm thinking she must have. She has grit available and a little probiotic powder sprinkled on her food. Has crop massages a couple of times a day for a few minutes, which she seems to enjoy. She is only getting moist crumbles (she doesn't like egg or yogurt). But, surprisingly she eats pretty well and has started to put a little weight back on. She also drinks quite a bit of water. Her droppings are mostly water, sometimes normal, but not as much as she should be expelling. She is not acting sick at all and is actually quite cheerful, wants out in the worst way, but I am keeping her in a hospital pen so that I can catch her easily to treat her.
Suggestions?
