The floor of our chicken house is plywood, what should I keep "on" it....straw, wood chips, hay? Of course the nesting boxes will have either hay or straw in them, but I'm wondering what would be easiest to clean out?? I probably plan to sweep it out once a week and was wondering if I should alternate or if I should just go with straw/hay? And I suppose I won't need anything to put in the run until they have the grass all gone right? What to put in the run then? Jeez, I just keep coming up with more & more questions....I do want to be a good chicken momma though

My coop has a dirt floor....well, dirt and gravel. I use straw...easier to clean up...and they love scratching in it. Some use wood chips....guess its a personal thing.

My hen house has a plywood floor too. I put 2 coats of deck water protectant stuff on it before the girls were allowed to move in. No matter how hard you try, water will get spilled, if you keep it inside and the poop in mine builds up in areas. That plywood will be toast in a few years with the moisture. I use pine shavings and clean them out every few months. So far the plywood seems to be in good shape. We've had this house for about 3 years now.
