My nine red sexlinks are about ten weeks old, they are just starting to roost on their roosting bars wich are two by fours stagered from about a foot off the ground to about three and a half feet with the. four inch side for their feet. My problem is that three of them have decided to roost on a 3/8 inch cable that is doubled up about seven feet off the ground.( i don't even know how they are getting up there) but the real question is will this be harmful to them as far as it being to small for thier feet and should I find a way to make them stop and join thier sisters. I am new to this so any sugestions would be helpfull.

This is the first year I've had chickens, got 12 of them at three days old and now they are 10 weeks and 4 days old, all doing great. I do read a lot about chickens. As far as roosting everything I read says about 2" round roost is what chickens prefer. They like to grip the roost. And they do go as high as they can get. I also have 3 roost and all 12 chicks roost on the top bar. about 4' foot high.

Chickens will go as high as they possibly can. They feel safe up high, especially at night when they can be attacked by preditors. I'd let them go as high as they want to as long as it's not damaging anything.

Thanks for the comments. The thing that worried me the most was them roosting on the small cable. I just wasn't sure what it may do to their feet.
