I have a main rooster and just added a younger one to the flock. The hens seem to like my new rooster. The problem is my main rooster jumped him and my second new rooster backed down and know his place. My main rooster want to keep chasing my new roo and tried to keep him away. How can I get him to stop chasing him if my new one gets close. They coexist well with one another when they’re free ranging until my new one comes close to my main roo and the girls.

Roosters really do not have the concept of sharing, they want all the hens, regardless the count. They really do not like competition with another rooster, especially a strange rooster. Sometimes brothers growing up together will work, but eventually they usually have it out. I think the best chance is a chick raised up under a broody hen, but even then, as the chick comes into his own, can cause a lot of problems.

Bringing in a strange rooster is triggering a cock fight. I do not see them becoming best friends forever. With this pair, I would think it would be best to pick the rooster you want to keep, and let the other one to go.

It could calm down, but I would expect it to escalate, sometimes they will fight until death, sometimes they work it out, only to fight another day.

Sadness.
My extremely chill bantam cochin roo just got carried off into the woods by a fox trying (and failing) to protect my best hen. He was slow and steady and didn't mind sharing with his hyper bantam egger brother. Was actually kinda touched that he rose to the occasion.
Now we just have the egger who has the worst crow and was already starting to get all stabby with people. Loathes my husband. But he's lovely with the ladies. Would take a single oat over to the young ladies to do his dance when little.
It seems like my success rate of introducing a new cockerel is going to be pretty low.
Should I just plan to keep a new pair out of the spring hatch?
My other option is to reclaim one of the ones that got dropped off at the rescue. But they lost the keeper lottery for a reason and I would need to restock on pullets.
I could also try to go up to a standard size boy, given how much the fox likes to visit and the flock likes to roam. But I still have a couple of bantam pullets and my neighbors aren't so far away as all that. Is there any standard size that runs small and quiet?
