Has anybody used or made a similar device like the morrigan humane poultry killer?

It severs the spine and causes it to bleed into the head eliminating the mess you normally have. I am gearing up to be able to process 100 meat birds in a couple of month. I am going to buy the Yardbird Plucker from Tractor Supply. It would be nice if there is to bleeding when I put them in the plucking machine.

Any tips are welcome. Thanks.

This look like it works the same way as the rabbit wringer.
I just want to be able to do it quick and as painless as possible. I try to give my birds a happy pleasant life and when the time comes, make it as quick as possible.

Honestly haven't seen or used one, but if it is anything like a hopper popper then you're set. Just make sure to do it with enough force to actually sever the spine, not just injure the bird.

I assume you just slide the chickens neck to the bottom of the "V" then give it a solid tug down. I would mount it vertically on a solid post. It should break the neck and separate it from the skull. I would think if done correctly that would be very quick for the bird.

I always pick up old bed frames when I see them on the side of the road. It is a free source of light steel for projects.
I will cut off a 14" piece, drill holes in it to mount it to a post with lag bolts and weld a piece of rebar to it. Only expense will be the bolts.

Or were you asking about the chicken plucker?

It snaps the neck without breaking the skin. You adjust the width to half of the neck thickness, place the bird's neck in the channel, close it and give it a good whack with a rubber mallet. That way it has enough energy to do the job without completely cutting the head off.

I remember that first one being reviewed here awhile ago and the person saying they would not choose to use it again.

The second one you show looks like it would work similarly to "the broomstick method" so might be an okay option. I would either mount it really low or really high, depending on whether you want to pull up or down. I would go ahead and assume pulling up would be better, because when you pull the whole head off (and you will, whether by accident or on purpose, it takes some time to get a feel for how much to pull) the blood is going to fly everywhere, so best to have the head pointing down.

Although, thinking more about it, what would keep the chicken's head in the second one? I can see them just pulling their head right up and out.
