here in florida, mosquitoes are something that you cant avoid. but now that we have new chicks outside we need a solution. i hear that they can be dangerous to the chicks. is there anything we can do to keep them safe?

Mosquitoes can carry avian pox, or fowl pox. This is a virus that in most cases just causes some lesions that go away after a few weeks. Occasionally a bird can get a secondary infection or get the "wet" version, which can be more serious. There is a vaccination for it; should be available at your feed store. Google it; you will bring up a number of articles about it.

I keep a fan blowing in the coop; seems to keep them less pestered -- but they got avian pox anyway.
