6 - 7 week old chickens pooping very orangey red stool (no pictures.) and two of them puffed up. The white one (Vanilla) is more lethargic, not really eating or drinking or super perky. Had blood present on legs and face. Black chick (Coffee) is puffed up slightly lethargic but still actively eating and drinking and more perky. The third chook (Mocha) is acting completely normal besides the stool. I’ve syringed 4.5ml ish of Vetsense Cocciprol (Amprolium) mixture to Vanilla as they weren’t really drinking or eating and I wanted to be 110% sure that they had ingested the medication. The other two have drunk the medicated water 5g per 4ltrs of water willingly.

does this sound like coccidiosis?

Yes, it sounds like coccidiosis.
I would continue to drench Vanilla for 4 consecutive days along with giving all of them the amprolium water.

I’ve syringed 10ml of water with Amprolium mixed in again around dinner time, I increased the amount for hydration purposes as well. We’ll see if Vanilla is any happier in the morning but I may try and entice an appetite later on tonight/give electrolytes. Vanilla is the one I’m worried about especially for obvious reasons. I have some anitone left over that I haven’t fed to my horses, that I could probably give them to help as well.

Here’s hoping they improve. 😩 Also the Cocciprol smells terrible!

Corid, the US available version of amprolium, doesn't smell.
How old is your Cocciprol?
It’s brand new and in date. It’s probably just an Aussie manufacturing difference, it’s not a very strong odour, it’s a faint and unpleasant one!

I believe it looks as it should and expiry isn’t until June 2022. Was sealed until I opened it to use. It doesn’t look like a powder does when it goes off either! It’s probably just my nose, I can always smell an odour to things that are meant to be odourless. 😂

Update:
Coffee is improving, we still have bloody stool though. However, Vanilla now appears to have come down with sour crop, I assume this is just a consequence from being sick from the coccidiosis. I’ve started fasting Vanilla and will be administering ACV after 12 hours from food and water. It’s a bit unfortunate because it means I have to hold off the cocciprol for this one for now or at least until the 12 hours are up. The one benefit is I haven’t seen any bloody stool from Vanilla specifically in awhile.
