The eggs under my broody are hatching!

I went out to check on her a moment ago and oh so carefully lifted her chest up. Sure enough, there was a recently hatched chick under her.

I could also hear her second egg peeping. The 3rd egg that's under her should hatch in about two days and it was the last one she laid two weeks after my Silkie roo was killed and before she went broody.
I have fretted over these eggs for the last 3 weeks. I have seen them out of the nest and cool to the touch. I have seen the other hens push mama bird out of her nest so they could borrow her eggs for some odd egg laying reason.

Humidity and temperature fluctuations all over the place! And they are hatching!!!

I'm usually a stickler for crisp, clean photos but I wanted to disturb them as little as possible. Hard to get a very mobile chick to hold still and say "cheese" while I'm clicking away.

Congratulations! I know you must be excited.

Pictures? The fact that hatching circumstances weren't perfect gives me new hope that my moody broody will hatch a few some day!

CONGRATS! Now you'll have something to remember your roo by. How cool is that. Don't be shy about posting those pics!

Would love to see them!

That's awesome!! I had a similar situation with the eggs my broody's were sitting on. I was concerned that they would not develop and hatch, but they hatched no problem. I guess these girls knew what they could and could not do. Will leave them to it, they know better than I do.

Pics are forthcoming. That baby had just hatched because it was still wet. And the other egg should be hatching real soon. As soon as they are dry I'll take pics.
Stuckinthecity-my thoughts exactly about my poor roo. He was the coolest rooster ever.

BTW-those are large flower pots that I had spray painted last year for them to lay in. All of the chickens lay in them. She had decided that she would rather brood outside of the pots.
