My motion sytem uses a number of lights, noise makers and radios. It keeps almost all night time predators
away. And it keeps my neighbors, my wife and the grand children awake when they are here. Mine is many set up for large predators. In order for it to work on small critters you will need to set the sensitivity extreemly high, then have your cat walk around it. A dog will move more than a wild animal and is the reason for the cat.

Is it expensive to get your motion detector?

Mine covers the fifteen acres of my property and some cross fenced areas. So I would say mine cost more than most. Not knowing the size of your run, I would guess you could get away with about a hundred dollars. What you will need is at least four motion dectector fixtures. Any hardware store will have them, they hold two lights. One side put a light bulb and the other place a radio.
On another place a light bulb and a whistler (I found mine at a local flea market). The noise this thing makes can be heard a half mile away like it is right next to you. Do this on all the unit you install. You can use a tape recorder if you like and put any sound you want on it. Make it as cheap as you can. I also installed an electric fence, which you can do also.
