I know it sounds crazy but we Are considering moving our six chickens with us to Arkansas from Seattle love. They will 1-/12 years old and we’re getting 5-6 eggs a day and they’re very tame.

We would be bringing their two portable coop/run with us in a U-Haul.

The concern is we cannot Ventilate the inside of the U-Haul and so concerned if we do it during the summer time it will get way too hot for the chickens. Plus everything will smell like chicken poop by the time we get Arkansas.

It will only take us about three days to get there.

How feasible is it to do this.

U-haul rents open bed trailers like you would put a riding lawn tractor, or motorcycle on ...

Might be cheaper to just buy/build a new coop, and get new chicks once your settled in though ...

We are renting an enclosed uhaul to ship possessions also. So no additional cost to ship chickens.
Actually saving around $500 by shipping coops.

If we move in late fall early spring not as concerned it is 1 to 1-1/2 years from now.

How feasible is it to do this.
Not very...or rather, it would be complicated.
But you have 1.5 to 2 years to consider?

First there are the agriculture regulations to consider, if you choose to adhere to them.
You'd have to check the requirements for bringing live birds into Arkansas.
There may be health certificate(s) and/or vaccinations and/or testing to obtain from a vet...or they might just say, no way.

Then there is the logistical aspect,
moving live birds in an enclosed truck is rife with issues.
Temperature control and ventilation are first,
so the birds immediate health doesn't suffer,
on top of the stress of being in that situation for 3 days and nights.
I'd guess the birds would need to be the last thing loaded in the back of the truck,
ride would be rough back there.
Plus what would you do with them at night?
Yes, it will stink...unless even if you change bedding daily.
Can you tend to birds(feed, water, bedding) in the back of a truck with(I assume) the big back door wide open?

I would suggest taking the coops but not the birds....but my chickens are not pets.

Yes it is not feasible to take them. So either have a going away party and have them all for dinner and take the coops or just leave them and tgeir coops for someone else.

Thanks for the input.
