moved egg

I usually get the eggs from my 2 females every morning. Last week they had made a little nest under the lawn chair and were sitting on the eggs and acting very protective so I let them stay. I marked the eggs with a marker for a few days and lately I have only picked the eggs that aren't marked. Today I went outside as usual and one of the marked eggs were in the middle of the duck area and it had a hole pecked in it and the yolk was out on the dirt. Any ideas on what could have done this and what I should be looking for?

Sounds like a duck got the egg when the hen got off to eat or drink. I would move the hen to a space that is protected from the weather and any threats there may be.

Thank you I'll do that. I didn't think of a duck moving it because they all (even the males) have sat on the eggs at times.

Sometimes ducks are just curious and like to peck at things.
