The 5-6 week old pullets were no longer content in their rubber maid brooder boxes and the coop isn't finished yet so I set up a big pen in the garage for them.
They were having a blast today running around and getting some air under their wings....very cute!!! I put a couple of heat lamps in a corner so I hope they'll be okay.
There were a couple that weren't as feathered out as the rest so I'm hoping they won't get cold.

Now I can't sleep!!!

I understand, my four 6 week old turkey poults are in there new coop with a heat lamp and I just went and checked on them again.

Because it's so cold in San Diego!!!

. Just kidding.(I grew up there:))
We had the same issue, moved them to the garage at about 5 weeks and I made sure to go check in the morning before the kids got up--if anything was wrong I wanted to make sure it was me that found it.
But they were all happy as could be.
I am sure sure they will be perfectly fine!

I am sure I will feel this way too.
My girls don't have an outside coop yet, but when they do, I will be nervous.
I'm sure your girls will be fine. I bet they love all that space - very luxurious!

We will be doing the same thing over the next few days. Thankfully I still have baby ducks in the brooder and a new shipment of chicks coming in(plus those growing under our broody girl). Which, I am sure my husband will just Love.

Ahh, I moved my chicks fromthe house to the garage BECAUSE I couldn't sleep! Much quieter now. Just put a blanket/towel/piece of cardboard over any openings to help keep the heat in and the drafts out.

Just make sure there's no way for 'coons and other varmints to get in to their new area. The roosters aren't old enough to protect everyone else yet.
