I have a 5 year old Buff Orpington who has been inside the house for about 5 weeks recuperating from an injury. She seems ready to go back out to the coop, but it’s going to be pretty cold here - 20’s during the day and teens at night. Does anyone know if it’s okay to move her out, or does she need to re-acclimate to colder temps? Thank you!

How warm is it in your house?
I would introduce her slowly, both because of the temperature change and the pecking order. I had a hen that was in hospital for two weeks and her flock tried to kill her when I put her back. She had to move in with one of my other flocks.

It’s high 50’s to low 60s during the day when we are at work- mid to upper 60’s when we’re home. She is on a back room that stays a little cooler. I’ve actually taken her outside about once a week on nice days to let her and her buddies see each other - they seem okay together, but I will definitely keep an eye on them!

I'd pick the warmest day where the outdoor high temperature is as close as possible to the one in the room and put her out there during the day. Chickens seem to adapt pretty quickly. Hope this helps! Maybe others will have better advice though :).
