Hi,

I'm currently incubating a batch of eggs for my brother in one of those small styrofoam Hova incubators, they are about halfway there. At the time they are scheduled to hatch, we have to leave for a few days, so we were thinking of bringing the incubator to his house so he can take it from there. Would this affect anything? It would mean to have the incubator unplugged for about 40-45 minutes and rattling in a car.. pls advise, tks :)

I would tape the eggs down if at all possible to keep them from rolling around with something just sticky enough to hold them. Or try putting them in a egg carton but leave them in the incubator. Also after whatever you decide to do let the incubator heat back up then I would tape the lid shut tight to keep from loosing any heat or humidity then proceed to move it as careful as possible.

Thanks Greg, good idea. They are already sitting in the egg turner so maybe I could set like a towel on top to keep them from vibrating at all, tks for your reply :)

I would take the eggs out, put them fat side up in egg cartons, wrapped in beach towels for the move, or put them back in the incubator in the egg cartons... Setup the incubator and replace the eggs when done...

If you are concerned you can always toss in one or two of the heat packs you can get for camping, or get a small power inverter so the incubator can be plugged in the car... But I think that is overkill for a 40 minute trip, just don't stretch the trip out...

On that note the small inverter is a nice backup to have, it allows you in an emergency power outage to plug the incubator into your idling car, or as I do have a few car batteries charged and ready...

I don't have the hova-bator specs in front of me but that inverter should suffice...

**Edit it appears the small Hova-Bators only use a 25 watt heater, so that inverter is plenty...

And if you do go to Harbor Freight to purchase it, send me a PM an I'll send you a 20% off coupon on top of the sale price...
