Hi all, quick question... I've had three hens since October living in a purpose built coop outside similar to the one below:

400

They are only in during the night as have free range to the garden. Now all of a sudden over the past few weeks I've been woken up by a racket from 5am with them screaming to get out and play (probably along with the rest of the neighbourhood)

The door is on a timer but it doesn't open until 6.30 to make sure the coast is clear of predators etc.

I've tried covering the coop in blackout material etc but they are still waking up really early, presumably from the sound of other wild birds etc in the garden going crazy on the feeders.

My next plan is to move the coop inside the existing shed which is empty. The idea here is it will be totally dark until the door slides open but also quiet.

Is there anything in particular I need to take into account when doing this? I'll be putting in vents into the shed but wanted to make sure there weren't any big no-nos before I do it

Thanks!

They may be bickering because of being crowded, being in a dark shed might help.
...might make the auto door moot if you have to open the shed to let them out.
