Moving eggs from a broody to incubator?

I'm still new to this. We have a broody who has been sitting on eggs for a while. One of my other hens got into the broody nest 2 days after Day 1. From what I'm reading the broody won't continue to sit on that egg if it is too long after the first hatch? Is it possible to move that egg into an incubator after the broody gets off the nest? The first egg should hatch on Sunday. What are the chances that I'll actually be able to hatch this lone egg?

I moved about 60 eggs from my broodys, into the incubator with no issues so far. I moved them earlier though, anywhere from 4 days to 12 days incubation, and I sanitized them with a 10 to 1 bleach water solution (which was warmer than the eggs). They are not ready to hatch yet, so I am not sure how well things will turn out, but it seems that they transplanted quite well.

Maybe you wouldn't want to move it until you are certain your broody will give up though?

Good Luck!!

I just make sure incubator is warmed up and at exact temperature you are suppose to have before I moved the egg. Then just move it. It will not hurt the egg and th hen will get it too cold when she leaves it. So you will have to move it sometime I just rather move it when I know she had it warm and it didn't get chilled.

We have had eggs collecting in the nest for almost two weeks hoping one of our hens would turn broody and set on them...and were about to give up and discard the eggs since they have been waiting so long...and then two nights ago one of the hens started setting on them. My concern is that most of the eggs may be too old now (we had about 15 eggs in the nest) and though she may have added a recent egg or two before setting, I wonder if I should just remove the old eggs out from under her and add the newer eggs being laid by the other hens. Any thoughts?

Manuelandthegirls, have you tried to start a new topic for your question? You will get many more responses that way.

Mrsmaonaigh, I love that movie too, but then I love most Monty Python stuff.

Have you decided if you are bringing the egg in? Have you candled it? Just curious. I would love an update to know if the little one makes it.

I'm just going to wait and see what happens. I have the incubator ready and there are enough of us around here to monitor her all weekend so I figured we should be able to get it there in time. I hope. LOL!

As long as the eggs in the nest did not freeze or just sit in hot sunlight most likely will be ok to sit. Before I jumped to conclusions i wholeheartedly agree with above kindle them. See if they are good before you throw them out. That is always safe practive check it before break it in case there is baby in there.
