So this is my first duck so I'm new to this. I got a duckling and a chick this spring and raised them together. Unfortunately the duck turned out to be a drake, there went my duck egg idea... So the Duck (Ducky) and the chicken get along just fine and live with two young roosters and another hen I "Acquired". My main concern is the group of older hens and rooster that chase him. They are allowed a LARGE yard to go where ever they want during the day, but I want to move the young chickens in with the older flock at night but I don't want poor Ducky to be left alone.. Anyone have any ideas of how I can get the other chickens to at least stop chasing him? Their coop is two 12x12 horse sheds connected together. Should I just move them in and let them figure it out?
Thanks for the advice.

As much as my mom would hate it I was considering getting him some girlfriends. I might have to wait till next spring though because I'm not sure where I will get them outside of a farm store. So far everyone seems to doing well.

That is good that it all seems to be going fine so far. It's also great that you are thinking of getting Ducky a couple of girlfriends - I really do think that he will appreciate it (and so will the chickens). When he gets older he might molest the chickens a bit (i.e. try to mate with them) but if he has a couple of ducks he should be happy with them and should leave the chickens alone.

It's possible that someone in your area will have ducks for sale at the moment, or towards the end of summer. Often breeders will let their ducks grow up a bit before deciding which to keep and which to sell. I know that round my area fall is actually the best time to buy adult sized birds.
