Gilroy, Ca.
So, I have finally decided to go "outlaw" (chickens are illegal in Gilroy, Ca. city limits...) and will be moving my girls from their home at my parents in law house, to our backyard. In doing so, I will have to get rid of Onyx, our RIR roo. After much consideration, we are going to do it ourselves and enjoy all the work we put into him..

My question is this. My girls have grown up with him since hatching, and they are all very attached. 2 of my three are laying, and I know moving them will probably stop that for a while, but would the removal of the Roo stop it as well? If it will, as I would think this would be a very big change, would it be better to remove him, and move them at the same time, or remove him, wait a week, then move them? I would assume it would be better to move them, and just leave him behind, get the shock of both over as soon as possible, but wanted some expert opinions.. I will be moving the coop they are currently in, so that would be a familiar place..

Picture of Onyx, just cause. He is a really pretty bird, and gunna miss him..

Thanks!

Sorry you have to eat him, but it is good eating.

If it was me, I would process him the day before moving the girls or the morning of the move. No specific reason, just would be easier for me.

Your hens might not stop laying, I have added a couple adult birds to my flock and the hens never stopped laying once they were here.
