Hi all 😊
I have a broody quail, she's been sitting on a clutch of eggs now for over a week. This morning it's been raining and the pen I have for the quails is in the weather. They have shelter but have built the nest outside. The area tends to get quite flooded quickly and I've had to cage my quails for Thier own safety,I feel I may have to this again if the rain keeps up. I am concerned however, if I move my broody quail and her clutch to a cage will she still sit on them? I would have to physically move the eggs one by one as they are in a hole nest as opposed to gatherings. I don't want to loose the clutch as it's my first one that will be successful after a year of trying.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can you cover the area with a piece of tarp or something and put the nest into a plastic container very gently? Leave it exactly how it was, with the grass, leaves, feathers, sticks, etc. Plastic container would keep it from getting soaked. Think like a tent kinda maybe. You may want to get an incubator just in case. She might stop sitting, I'm not really sure. I wish you luck! I'm not much help, never had a broody anything so I have no idea. Oh, and welcome to BYC!

Thank you 😊

I've covered her area with a plastic lid for now I'm just not sure how well it's going to hold up especially if the rain gets harder. May have to look into a tarp for the whole pen.

Yeah, that may be your best bet. I wonder if you could get one of those plastic tub things and cut a little entry in it and put her nest in that to keep it ff the ground
