I got my first egg today. I have 4 girls and hubby is building an addition to the existing coop and then moving it. Is this okay to do now or should we wait until they are done laying?

I'm not sure what you're asking here. @FrankHomestead hit the first nail on the head, second how far are you moving it? I move my coop frequently. Are you concerned about construction around the birds, if so, don't be. They'll supervise his work and offer input along the way.

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. We want to move the coop 20 feet and facing the opposite direction. Can we do this some time in the next couple of weeks without disrupting them too much.

Yes. I move mine 20-50 feet depending on obstacles every few weeks. Everything on my farm moves, its the only way I can give the kids fresh grass.

Here's a look at one of my coops. It's not pretty but is functional. I have different shelters for different breeds all inside about 400 feet of electric fence.

In a week or two, the fence will move into the green you see in the background. The kids haven't finished cleaning this site yet.

Hahaha yeah they will definitely have lots to say and discuss among themselves. imo I think it's good for them, they are extremely curious creatures and seem to get excited with change, at lease mine do anyway!

Agreed. No project around the flock is completed without their supervision. One of my gals is the only chicken to ever get noticed by my husband. He was completing a construction detail, and she was peering over his shoulder, pulling at his shoe laces, and peering into his tool box the entire time he was working. He dubbed her "Nosey Nellie." So, she is now named Nellie. One of about 3 (in the whole flock) who has earned a name.
