I have four Auracans that have free range over my yard and the woods behind me. (yard 1 acre, woods 5 acre) They have a big coop with nesting boxes, and they use to lay in the nesting boxes. Recently they seemed to slow down considerably, but then I found a nest of 45 eggs under a dingy in the yard. I moved the dingy and messed up the nest hoping that they would resume with the nesting boxes. Well, they just found another place under a board between the shed and the fence.

My question is how do I get them to use the nesting boxes, or should I just let them use the nest that they made and collect them there each day? I lock them up in the coop each night and let them out each morning, so I have to go past there, but I would rather they just lay where it's convenient for me.

Maybe if you place a fake egg in the nest boxes it would encourage them. Some people have even used Golf balls.
