Hi all!
I haven't been as active on BYC lately as I have been in the past. However, I am doing my annual hatch-a-long with my class, which is my favorite project! I won't be keeping any chicks but several of my students will be (provided we have a successful hatch!)
I will be setting 18 eggs (maybe 19 if I collect more today) in my Nurture Right 360. I live in a humid area and have more success with a dry hatch method, so I will be doing that again. Last year I only attempted to hatch 8 eggs, 7 of which were fertile and got 6 chicks! If any of you were along for that ride, it was a special hatch for me as it was the only remaining piece of my lost flock that the neighbors dogs took unexpectedly. I ended up with 5 cockerels (lucky me!) and one hen. We kept Colonel Potter, a Buff Orp/SL Wyandotte cross that is sweet as can be, the product of our old Roo Hawkeye and our top hen Tilly.
I'll be hatching 6 or 7 of the eggs from my own flock, and 12 from a friends flock who had more fertile eggs ready for hatching than I do at the moment.
ANYWAY, if you want to follow along with my class as we hatch these babies, feel free! I am letting the students give temporary names to the eggs for the class as we track progress for our project, but if you want to "adopt" one on here and give it a nickname/second name, go for it!
Here are the eggs:
I have one with letter labels and one without. The eggs on the right are from my flock and I have some idea of the breed mixes, the ones on the left are barnyard mix and could be anything!
Feel free to pick an egg and a name! I'll update as we go. They will be set tomorrow! Yay!
