Much to my amazement

Today is the 27th day of an incubation which has been fraught with problems 8 peahen eggs in an incubator which didn't seem to be keeping the right temperature and humidity...well could have been anything. Add to that I found when I candled them that all but one had the air sac at the wrong end, the other one didn't look as if it was progressing as it was only half filling the shell whereas the others were completely filling it apart from the air sac. This morning 2 had pipped and just now a third has completed its journey out of its shell. My first peachick. Amazing.

Three strong peachicks out this morning. But sadly I think the two which pipped early have died in shell. I'm slightly cross with myself because I thought I would let them try for 24 hours to get out by themselves, now with hindsight, wonder if I should have intervened yesterday. The 3 which are out pipped and unzipped very quickly (within a couple of hours) which should have given me a clue.

Update on the DIS's. One definitely gone the other I noticed was breathing when I picked the egg up so opened up the shell and more or less shook it out and it is now drying off and toddling round the incubator. So that is 4 out of 8 eggs out. 50% for shipped eggs isn't too bad and given their rather less than perfect incubation has to be a small miracle. I will leave the other 3 for 2 or 3 more days but no sign of progress from them yet.

Thank you. I'll try to get some pics next week, we are shearing (alpacas and sheep) this weekend so likely to be a bit busy.
