Hey, my girl Poppy's been under the weather for the past few days. Yesterday, she stayed put in the nesting box. Her belly was swollen - not massively so, but enough to be noticeable when I touched it - and she seemed like she was trying to lay and couldn't. No penguin walking/sitting, though. In the morning her poop was mucusy and yellow.

I gave her an epsom soak, and she pooped a few more times throughout the day - I didn't see any more yellow mucus, but lots of green, which checked out because she hadn't left the nesting box to eat. She wasn't interested in her usual feed or in scratch, but she was enthusiastic about fruit, vegetables and stuff that seemed less "dry". I made her a slurry from her feed with Nutri-Drench, a crushed Calcium-D3 tablet and some boiled egg whites. She ate all of it.

The next day - today - she started off in the coop, but she eventually left and roosted outside in the shade. She ate enthusiastically and her poop, while still green, is more solid and looks like there might be actual food in there somewhere. Her comb is red, her eyes are bright, and the swelling is visibly down in her belly.

So here's my question... when I went to check on her just now, her poop had this thing in it. It doesn't look like a lash egg to me because it's not solid, but I'm at a loss to guess what it is. It's got a thin membrane sac thing over it, and the inside is almost like.. gelatin? Kinda? The pictures probably aren't the clearest, but I cut it open and no part of it was solid.

Any thoughts y'all have would be greatly appreciated! :,)

Can you show photos of the inside?

I'd give her the Calcium Citrate+D3 tablet once daily for a total of 5 days, see if she expels any more material or an egg.

See that she's drinking and eating.
Here are some shots of the inside. I manipulated it for awhile, and there's nothing in the weird gelatin stuff - no other colors or bits. I can see the "skin" sac through it. Strange.

And will do! I'm feeling cautiously encouraged by her perk-up after the calcium yesterday.
