can mud irritate the feathers of chickens feet? Cochin rooster has some pink/red irritated skin on his feet but unfortunately he was in some pretty muddy conditions until today. The one bloody feather I accidentally damaged when I caught him today.

Can you get another picture showing his entire legs? It looks like he has a sace of scaly leg mites. Mud is hard on their feet, and they need to have dry bedding or sand under their feet if not out in the grass.
Leg mites are best treated with a warm bath in soapy water, and use an old toothbrush to gently clean the legs and loosen the scales. Dry well. Then apply an oil once a week to his legs and feet rubbing it in well up under the scales. Repeat once a week with the oil. I like to use Criso shortening in a can, but other good ones are vaseline, castor oil which lasts a long time, or other vegetable oil.
Ok thank you.Just looks dirty to me... a good soaking and oil would be a good idea anyways because his skin looks really dry...
