If I put small gravel and then sand in my covered coop (in central NC), how long could I expect them to live mud-free?
Right now, the coop has hardware cloth sides and a metal roof. Sitting on a bit of a slope next to another coop, so all the rain that runs off one coop roof runs into the other one. We put in a French drain a while ago, but it worked for a minute or so. I put pallets in there so I can walk, but I need a longer solution.
I tried putting plastic 1/2 way up on the high side of the coop but water does what water does, seeps in anyway.
Any big storm with driving rain will get the whole coop wet as well. It's about 12'x12' with minimal roof overhang.
What works for y'all?
