I am building a second coop at the moment and have a question about how the birds will use it. My coops have to be open always because I am unable to let them in and out every morning and evening. there is a fence around the yard to keep them safe. My question is, with both coops being open, will they all roost in both coops, or will they each keep to their own coops. I am planning on keeping the birds I want in the new coop locked in for two days, but after that, they will be on their own as to which coop they roost in. It doesn't really matter, but I am just wondering if all the birds are gonna want to be in the new coop.

They should stay to themselves after a little while. They'll probably figure out who is going to stay in which coop after a few days and then they should stay there constantly.

I have an old rooster and his mate that freerange. They have their own little coop for the night. We recently started to let our 2 year olds freerange as well. They all freerange together until its time to go inside and they separate. The older rooster and his mate go into their little coop and the other guys go into the bigger coop. I was surprised the first night I found them roosting I thought they would all go into the one big coop.
