Let my older gals out to free range yesterday about 10:am. Everybody was alert and active about 10:30 or a bit later when I left to run errands.
My wife texts me around 12: noon to tell me one of the Evil Twins is dead.
A perfectly healthy appearing and acting 15 month old Wyandotte.
Wife was in the house playing video games on her phone and heard nothing. I looked the hen Cruella over carefully. No bites no blood. No missing feathers. Absolutely no sign of trauma.
Wife found her with her head under a large plastic pallet my hot tub sits on.
I know there was a black snake 3 footer and a small turtle under there not long ago. But unless one just scared her to death, I would think there should be some kind of sign.

Was her comb purple? I had one chicken who died of a heart defect and she looked fine in the morning, but later that day she was dead. The only noticeable thing about her was that her comb was purple. I hope you can figure out what killed her. Sorry about your chicken!:hit:hugs

I didn't notice any purple when I saw her. Pale but I asked the wife because she found her a couple hours before I saw her. She said she didn't notice any discoloration.
