Hi
I recently got my new hens (1st timer!) 6 of them and I asked for their vacination history.
Odd owner that I am...i didnt realise that this would take 6 telephone conversations to squeeze the info out of the breeder (they dont normally hand out info like that unless your getting 1000+ commercial birds!)
I wanted it though, and he zoomed through the vaccines given at 1billion miles per hour...trying to confuse me no-doubt.
He mentioned one that was given at 7 days 'murian' at least it sounded like that
Does anyone have any ideas WHAT this is!? Ive looked online AND in my veterinary medicines compendium (Im a registered vet nurse) but no luck
I cannot find owt that sounds like this
Help anyone

I would be extremely suspicious of anyone trying to avoid naming what medications or vaccinations they've given the animals you've bought off them. Expecting trouble, are we, is what I'd think. I would get back in touch with him and get a comprehensive list clearly explained; what's the problem with him naming what he's given them if it's all kosher? I smell a rat who knows he's doing the wrong thing. One who knows there can be legal ramifications for what he's done. Hard to justify/explain that behaviour from him otherwise... I've come across many dodgy breeders and people using decades-banned antibiotics and vaccines, and often they know it's banned for a reason (usually danger to humans) but justify using it to themselves.

Guilt free breeders are happy to name all the vaccines they have given the birds. That's my two cents anyway.

theyre VERY reputable breeders! Recommended by Many - Hinchliffes of Netherton, West yorks
Id just like to know what it might be...or what it might sound like...whats vaccinated for at 7 days etc ??

Some of the dodgiest breeders are very reputable. I didn't say he was actually guilty of anything untoward, just that from your description it sounds like it. Also just because someone was doing the right thing before doesn't mean they can't make a mistake and go into damage control mode about it rather than come clean. 'Specially where lots of money is involved, and reputation. And potential lawsuits. Why would he be so reluctant to tell you, and then hurry through it 'trying to confuse you' as your impression was.... Maybe I misread your post and you didn't mean it the way I took it.

Asides from my two cents on the breeder's behaviour as you reported it, I'm sorry, I don't know any vaccine by a name like that. You can try the agricultural or drugs sectors of your state government websites?
Here's some websites that might be useful:

Best wishes. if your gut tells you he's acting guilty, I would advise you to be cautious though. A lot of things can go wrong even when we're trying to do what we know is right, and the pressure of business drives may mistakes.

EDIT: found more. Maybe your 'murian' referred to 'merial' technology?
