Murray Fest

Is anyone else planning to attend Murray Fest in Webster City, Iowa? From June 29-July 1, Murray McMurray Hatchery is holding "a weekend of learning and community; a "poultry and homesteading festival."

If so, it would be great to meet some BYC folks in person!

I just checked and we're only 6 hours and 17 minutes away.

Depending on the status of a new coop we're adding, we may consider a camping trip to there. It'll be close in timing though so we'll see in a couple of weeks how it's looking. Would sure be fun to meet you and maybe a few others!

The first day of Murray Fest was amazing! Great speakers, and they were all pretty approachable. I talked with one on her way to get lunch, sat down with two -- who invited folks to plop down in patio chairs with them and chat -- and literally gushed when I introduced myself to the man behind "No-Dig Gardening." Charles Dowding graciously accepted my compliments and didn't run away or call security.

Lots of vendors gave me plenty of opportunity to spend money, so I did.

On the hatchery tour, our group guide was retiring owner Bud Wood, whose son-in-law is now in charge. Mr. Wood knew all the numbers of everything anyone asked and encouraged questions about anything.

Most of the attendees I talked to were from out of state; reportedly there were people from 40 states and two other countries.

I am excited about going back today!
