This guy was stepped on by the horse. I believe it's his ankle area, missing some scales.
Not putting weight on his foot. Don't know what I can do for him, he is currently in his dog house where he is resting. He is eating, drinking fine.
Not sure if I can try to splint or just see if it heals by itself. . .?
He Is full grown and quite heavy, he does try to hobble around with the help of his wing for balance if I let him out.
Any suggestions.

I would put the drake in a pen with food and water close by-then wait and see if the leg improves. If he is putting any weight on the leg that would be a good sign. The weight isn't going to help matters. If the injury was recent hopefully there will be improvement soon.

We just went through this with an oegb hen.. we didnt splint it because the swelling might have cut off circulation if wrapped. We kept her seperate in a small pen for 3 weeks and she healed up. She has a limp, but gets along pretty well. We thought we were going to have to put her to sleep because when it happened her leg became ice cold and we were worried about circulation. But nature works miracles and healed our lil pigeon bird.

Good luck. She always ate, drank and even laid us an egg when she was in the "hospital".

thank you for the replies. I was going to give him a week to see if he seems any better. He is in his pen where the trio sleeps at night. the girls went back with him last night but he was too interested in trying to jump on them so will have to find another place for the girls tonight.

he is doing well now. He over does it when let out to free range as he follows his girls around. but other then that he can put weight and walk with a bit of a limp.
