Hello, I'm new here to BYC and could use some advice concerning a Muscovy drake that I recently rescued. Ten years ago, I rescued two Embden geese who had been abandoned at a local lake. I was able to find a home for them with a man who was very excited to adopt them and has cared for them for the last ten years. A week ago, his family called to let me know that the man had died (very sad) and they did not know what to do with the two geese and a Muscovy drake that he had also adopted. I went and picked up all three birds. I will now have a flock of four geese along with the solitary drake. I am concerned that this is not the best arrangement for him. I have very limited space and don't feel that I can add a flock of ducks. Should I try to rehome him with someone who keeps ducks or will he be fine with the geese? If I should rehome him, I would like to make sure that he is a pet and is protected from predators. I live in eastern Nebraska. Please let me know what you think.

Do you room to have him there? If he has been with the geese he should be fine as long as they all get along and get along with your 2 geese. You could try posting on the Nebraska thread at where am I where are you? Or just see how it works out. Bless you for taking them! :welcome

Hi welcome to BYC you are going to love it here. It has so much information on all types of animals, you are going to love it here! Anyways to your drake I'm not a duck expert, but I have learned with birds and animals if they are tamed they will fight a bit, but they will eventually get along. Just check on them every 5 to 10 minutes, just be careful. And I know people have jobs and have to work and so in case you are one of them maybe try this on a day you don't have work or anything to do otherwise one of them is going to be seriously hurt or dead (I had to learn this the hard way) and that will be a horrifying thing to see[/QUOTE]

My Muscovy drake an my gander are not fans of each other and during breeding season can get into fights. But for the most park just stay out of each other’s way. Only problem would be if all the geese ganged up on the drake.

Thank you for the welcome! The two geese that I took in are both ganders who are very bonded to each other. The drake has been with them for at least six years so they all seem to get along fine. I have the new birds quarantined in my garage at night and in a separate yard during the day. I am concerned that problems may arise when I introduce them to my two females. I only have one shed to house them all in at night. It is approximately 50 square feet. Is that too crowded for five birds?
