one of my muscovies was looking pretty disheveled (unhealthy looking feathers on her back and neck) but recently started laying. Picked her up to put her in the bath and noticed she was missing all her feathers from one side of her vent, there was fresh blood and her vent area is sticking out and hanging quite a bit. I’m waiting for my husband to get home so I can assess where the bleeding is coming from. I feel so terrible! My drake is known for pulling some neck feathers but she’s the only one that looks this beat up. I don’t even know where to begin! Help! Is this from bullying of the other hens? Rats? Ah!

Sounds like she might have a prolapse. Can you bring her inside where it's clean until you and your husband can take a closer look? If possible, post pictures too.

I’m getting ready to bring her inside now but idk if I’ll be able to get pictures without him home yet to help. Should I put her in a warm bath first to clear the area for a better look?

I’m hearing a grinding/churning noise coming from her butt. This is the best picture I can get right now.
