I have a few scovy drakes that are 2 months 1 week old. I noticed a few days ago a honking type of noise coming from the flock (males and females all together). Today I noticed now two ducks are making the same noise. I cant pin point which drakes are making the noise but I know its them. Is this a transition from peeping to hissing? Is it because they may be sick? Around what age do their voices change?

Thanks for any help!

My Muscovy ducklings hatched in May and are now starting to change voices. They're not sick unless they're also not eating well, not being active, etc. The males' peeping will slowly start “fading” and get hoarser and fainter. For a while, they might be totally silent, and then they will start hissing. That's how my males transition. I've never heard a Muscovy drake honk (though the females sometimes will), regardless of age, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Thank you for your response! Maybe it is more of a raspy voice. Its hard to describe. I hear it when they are all just sitting and hanging out but if I or someone else goes near them they stop and move away. All the ducks are very active and eating/drinking well so im assuming they arent sick. Ill just keep an eye on them to make sure nothing else changes.

Drakes chatter with baby voices for a bit... that said they don't ever do anything other than hiss after mature. Unless they are mixes. Honestly, i don't even listen for voices, size tells me the direction they are taking sex wise long before the voices come into play.

Im not using voices for sexing. I was concerned maybe something was wrong with the ducks because of the noise they were making. I was unsure if it was or wasnt normal and if something were wrong how to fix it. Ill try to record the noise and post it or try to find something online that is similar to the sound.
