I brought home a Muscovy duckling the weekend before last because I felt sorry for it having one eye. The lady I got her from was selling them and I didn't think any one would want to take her, so I opted to take her. After I brought her home, I washed around the eye and put some antibiotic ointment over it, and I was told that it should have already closed. Yesterday, I noticed a knot starting to swell, and today it is about twice the size. When I noticed it, I called a Dr that's an hour's drive from me who looks at ducklings, but they couldn't get me in before Monday, and since it is now twice the size, I'm worried about her. Her eye socket is seeping a clear fluid, and I think it needs to be lanced, but I don't know how to do that, and I don't know how to help her.

She sleeps inside in the brooder, and during the day she stays with the other ducks. She becomes depressed when inside the brooder, and it's like she just doesn't want to live. That's the only reason she goes outside during the day.
This is what she looked like when I brought her home almost two weeks ago.

I think it looks a lot worse than it is because she is molting... But it's still bad.

Can you get to TSC today and pick up some Vetericyn spray for wounds and infections? also you could try a saline wash by using very warm water and mixing salt into it and letting it cool enough to where you can wash her eye socket out these are just some things to do till Monday. if there is an abscess/infection at least these may help some till you see the vet. Also there is antibiotic eye salve I think it is Terracycin that can be bought at Feed store. Wash the eye out real good with Vetericyn or saline and then pack it out with the T eye salve. Sure looks painful, they will probably put her on some kind of antibiotic also.

Please let us know how she is doing. So sweet of you to take her.

I'm sorry it took me so long to update. Sadly she had to be put down. She had a sinus infection. I'm not very good with details, but it was bad enough she couldn't have recovered without more money than what I could put in. I'm sorry I couldn't help her more than I did...
