So mama laid her 15 eggs June 10 (55 days ago) in our front yard flower bed. She is wild and a part of many around our neighborhood ponds. There are only 3 that remain but she continues to sit on them all day thru the Lakeland Florida heat leaving only for about 45 minutes each morning around 7am. Searching online I have learned that incubation is 33-35 days. If the eggs are pretty much done at this point, why won't Mamma draw this conclusion and get back to living life. Is there anything I should do to help her make this choice?
The only thing I have done is create a small drinking/bathing container (in the shade of a tree) about 20 feet away. One that she took to and uses often till the shade of the house reaches her nest.
Many a wonderful Thanks for any and all replies/assistance to this post.

Only thing I can see is when she’s off the nest take those 3 eggs inside and go into a dark room closet will do and candle them. Handle very carefully because 55 days is a long time and they may burst. Sniff test before you take them in. If they aren’t any good toss them and destroy the nest she’ll then start to get over it. Place something over where the nest was to.

Thanks Miss Lydia for your timely response. This has been wearing on my Heart for weeks now. I will do as you suggest (tomorrow morning when she is off the nest / sooner if possible) and post back with my findings. I SO hate that she has tolerated so much at this point and the END may just be a Total Loss. -Sincerely, Sonny (a.k.a. Papazz)-

Here is a picture of developing eggs hope it helps.
