muscovy problem?

My muscovy hen keeps doing this weird dance around my chickens. She starts making a coughing noise and walks around my chicken coop moving her neck and head back and forth while doing that she wags her tail repeatedly like a dog. Is it a territorial problem or is she wanting to mate?

Sounds like she needs a drake. how old is she?

She turned a year old in March. I bought a mallard drake and hen at tsc a few weeks ago will that work?

How old are the Mallards? your drake needs at least 2-4 ducks so having an extra duck will help him distribute the affection. any ducklings from a Muscovy /Mallard mating will be strerile.

I don't plan on raising ducks we have them for the eggs

Wait, why will they be sterile? A duck is a duck. Chickens can crossbreed and their offspring will be fertile. Why won't a duck?

Mallards and muscovys are separate types of ducks, they separated a very long time ago, it's like a horse and a donkey, close enough to produce offspring, but not fertile offspring

Oh ok. I never knew that. I thought all ducks could produce fertile offspring.
