So a while ago, we bought 6 new fancy 1 week old, polish and silkies and other fancy chickens. sadly, only 2 lived. then we got 5 more fancy ones, also polish and silkies, and they ALL died. they have water, food, air condition, and a heat lamp. i don't want to loose any others. does anyone know what im doing wrong?

Look up "pasty butt" in the search box. It's the only thing I have knowledge of , with chicks. Someone else will help more, I'm sure.

you or they are the wrong temp too hot or too cold

do they make a bunch of noise.... like PEEP PEEP PEEP

if so they are letting you know that they need help

I agree totally with piglet. If they are making more than very soft and content peeping noises as they putt around the brooder then something about the conditions ( food, water, temp, light , crowding) is out of desireable parameter. If they seem content but are dying off, illness is suspect.

thanks but we know about pasty butt, every moring and night I would check and clean their pasty butt. but the petstore we bought all of them at, turns out they rip off there pasty butt instead of washing it off with a rag and warm water, my mom said that may be why and when we bring them home, they are all so little, they get stressed out and injured from the car ride home. do you think that might be why?

If you are buying healthy birds a car ride shouldn't be a factor. Boxes of birds survive the mishandling of the postal service and airlines weekly. Personally I wouldn't bring home birds that are already showing signs of stress ( pastey bum) as you are already one step behind. My guess is either two things... The birds are not healthy or the care they are getting is inadequate. Things generally want to live.

well other people have been saying that car rides will affect them a lot,
and the petstore guys all said that polish and silkies are VERY fragile, and that when a polish chick is 1 week old, its about 90% chance it will die, 2 weeks old, 80% chance, 3 weeks 70% chance, ...... and silkies when 1 week old, 80% chance and yea. and like I said the petstore people just ripped off their pasty butt. soo yea. but I don't kneed to know anymore because we arnt going to buy more chicks that are that young anymore......thanks all of you for your help,
case closed!!!!
bye!
again, thanks

yup stay away from that pet store :(
check craigslist & find a breeder in your area
they will be glad to sell you quality birds
we have silkies & no they almost always live
yes there can be a weak one but that is rare

what state are you in?
we have a bunch of silkies in our 3 brooders
if you were near by i would give you a couple
after all i can always just hatch more :)

good luck
