I have a 12 week old silkie that died. I went into the pen and she(?) was on the ground barely moving. I picked her up she convulsed, died and some creamy white stuff came out her mouth about a tablespoon full. She was fine. Eating good etc. What happened! I am devastated as she always let me pick her up. I have 4 other silkies the same age and 1 rock hen the same age. She had no external injuries. Please help! Their coop is clean, they always have fresh water and they are on starter feed. I supplement with melons-canatlope sometimes. They have a Garlic plant in their pen that is in bloom. I have quails with them too. I am in Georgia...temp is about 88 at day and 70 at night. They are in a covered large coop. They nest together and they do not get wet. They are probbaly in about 85 degrees shaded in the day with plenty of air flow. Dirt Floor with Pine chips from the tree cutter.

Welcome to BYC. So sorry for your loss. It would be hard to know exactly what killed your silkie without getting a necropsy on her body, kept cold, but not frozen, and taken in or shipped to your state vet. It can be common for a dying chicken in the throes of death to convulse or have a twisted neck, and lose control of their crop contents. Here is a link for finding the contact info for your state vet to contact on Monday morning. They can ask you to drive in the body or give you a shipping label to overnight the body. But keep it cold not frozen until then. Here is the link:
