Hey there. I have a few questions... first let me give you the background. Jan. 17, 2021 i purchased 2 two week old silkies from a silkie farm. I am new to chickens. I was keeping them in a small cage inside the coup with my 2 older hens to acclimate them at night and during the day they would run around together in the yard. They seemed to be doing quite well and so i left the small cage door open and they were able to run around inside the coup at night. It was fine for 4 days but the morning of day 5 i found my little silkie who i think is a roo covered in blood, ice cold and barely able to stand. His entire back of his head and neck were almost down to the bone. My daughter and i brought him in and washed him and blew him dry to bring his temperature up and lathered him in neosporin. We kepp it covered with the neosporin daily and has been 6 days. He is making a great recovery. My questions for you... The pair are together in a cage in my living room. Should I let them get some outside time? I am afraid of maggots because i had a duck attacked by a raccoon last year and within days he had maggots. How long does it take for them to heal? Will it ever be able to close up? Thank you all for your info!
