The corn crib/grainery that DH gave me for my critters has been amazing and versatile so far! We have a "summer pen" which I posted pics of earlier this summer, which is between the corn crib side and the grainery side, which gets lots of ventilation without the sun coming in to heat it up. The "goat pen" (i sold my goats but we still call it that) is where my ducks (and bantams) are living now, but its not ideal for warmth (the ducks were fine last winter but...I want better for my chooks) so we have taken the other half of the grainery side (double walled on a 12 inch thick cement floor) and are turning it into our warm winter pen. We will run extension cords out this winter to run the heated waterer and heat lamp on the cold days. This is how far we've gotten:
The front half with the little windows is the new pen, the back half without windows is the "goat pen".
DH is experimenting with different roofs for our "acclimating pen" so please forgive the mess. Thunder and Princess are helping DH decide what to use in this shot.
Princess is a ham for the camera, if I'm taking pics shes in the shot. This is the inside of the new pen, we're going to use plexiglass for the windows but we're putting a large, double-paned glass one on the South wall to allow more sunlight in.
And the old bolt bin (and the other 5 like it in an old shed) will be our nesting boxes once we mount them to the wall.
