We are relatively new to the chicken raising, but it has been super fun. We currently have 5 hens. One is an Amberlink and she has been such a wonderful pet! She lets us hold her and pet her, and she comes running any time she sees me- probably because I often have a treat to provide. We had 2 Amberlinks and lost one- I’m thinking to a hawk most likely. Afterwards, my little Sally was devastated. She was depressed and mopey is the best way I could describe it. She would lay down in the yard and would often stand inches from our foundation and just stare. She stopped laying eggs for a period of time. So anyone who thinks that chickens are stupid and do not feel emotion are wrong. She has since perked up and has really become attached to me. I love my Sally!

Every single one of my chickens have personalities. A long time ago I got rid of half of my flock. I have them to a friend because I had too many. One hen I gave away, Cam, loved jumping on me. I was giving away her best friend rooster and wanted to keep them together though.

I went back to visit them months later. 6/8 chickens I gave were gone, apparently a coon attack. Cam was still there, and she clearly recognized me. She came and sat in my lap. I took those two chickens home. Everyday at free range time Cam comes to find me to sit on me.

She is a Rhode Island Red.
