Hi there, my black austrolop is approx 3/4 yrs old???
She has been sitting under our deck or at the door on one foot, eyes closed, with slightly ruffled feathers. I have checked for mites and parasites and she's still eating and drinking. I can pick her up which I could never do before.... She seems to weigh nothing! I'm so worried she's in pain.... Any ideas what could be wrong with her??
Thank you for any help

You could feel her crop to see if it is impacted or she is suffering from sour crop. Best time to check is in the morning whenit normally would be empty, but if she hasn't been eating it might be full or impacted from grasses or swallowing something large or stringy. Next thing to consider is egg bound or internal laying issues. Is she laying? You can take a rubber glove, lubricate the finger and do an internal exam of her vent for a stuck or broken egg. Notice if she has a dirty vent or any internal parts sticking out. Thirdly, she could have a big worm load. Valbazen and Safeguard liquid goat wormer are best-1/2 ml for either by mouth, and repaeat in 10 days. Coccidiosis is usally considered at a younger age, but if any new chickens have been brought in recently, it still can happen if she gets exposed to a new strain. Does she have any sneezing, facial/eye swelling or nasal/eye drainage? Also you might look at her poops.

I tried to feel her abdomen and around her vent and can't feel anything abnormal. No sneezing etc. I can't tell if she's laying but ill get the kids to keep an eye on who's going into the nest boxes. I will go today to get some de- wormer... We don't have a great store here so wish me luck!!

So all we have available is a dewormer for round worms!!!! What can I do? Order from the USA??

Look for round worms in her poop. Are you in Canada? Corid the anti-cocci medicine is called Amprol there and in other countries. Most feedstore employees can recommend what you have locally. If you think she has worms, you can use the roundworm med. The ones I recommended are best for most worms, but not always available outside of the US.
