My little RIRs are 11 days old, and I'm loving every minute with them! For the past few days, when I clean their brooder (4-5 times a day ~ whew!), they've been trying to jump up towards the edge of their box, flapping their little baby wings like crazy, and I knew it wasn't going to be long before someone made it...
This afternoon I was changing them as usual, and imagine my surprise when all of a sudden there was a baby chick sitting on the edge of the brooder! She seemed almost more surprised than I was
I got her back in, and I'll be dammed if she didn't get up there again. This time she seemed to be very proud of herself
but she was quite calm about letting me get her back into the box.
(I normally keep a wire screen over the top of the brooder, but have to remove it to clean.)
I wasn't expecting that quite so soon! Hubby's building a bigger brooder tomorrow before I have chickens jumping all over the spare bedroom
