I was so worried. They are about 7-8 weeks, fully feathered, etc. But still...they are babies! It got down to about 45 last night, but the coop is nice and sheltered and they were safe and secure. We checked on them a few times. They were all huddled up sleeping.

They came down the ramp this morning and were happily peeping and scratching. One of my girls jumped up to perch on my arm while I was bent down talking to them.

My babies are growing up!!

LOL I understand! The first night mine spend outside I am joyous to have them out of the house but so worried about them even though I know they'll be fine. Love the excited peeping when they see you coming in the morning

I understand fully, we put our 5 week olds out last weekend and 2 days later it got cold enough to frost but with the heat lamp they were just fine, I think they enjoyed it more than the brooder. I was a nervous wreck the first night, but seeing how happy they are and how much they enjoy seeing you in the morning is so satisfying.

Been there done that! Just 2 days ago I put my 5.5 week old Australorps out in the coop with the heat lamp on them. I wasn't sure how far away to keep the lamp but took a good guess. I was so worried about my babies!! But they all came thu with flying colors.

Each morning they have come down the ramp with such vigor I will assume they are fine and happy with the new accomodations.

Although I have to admit, I am suffering from "the empty nest syndrome" with my babies so far away from me!

I hope to get over it soon.

I have not had a good night sleep since I ordered our chicks..I have almost 3 weeks to wait before they get here and my head nods the entire time I am "awake" ......................I can easily see..I will not be getting any good sleep for months....me....a mother of 4, 3 teens, 3 on the Autism spectrum...not sleeping over chickens.

I guess we are just use to it or crazy because I always put my baby chicks out at 3-5 weeks usually 3 no heat light at all and it got down to 42 all were fine.I do get a little nervous but weve dont it for so long I quit worrying.

Kiwi, I have belonged to a lot of forums over the years and I almost decided to not join a chicken one for this reason..we humans tend to forget they are animlas and that people have raised chickens for centuries without bulbs and places in the house to keep them warm..so much to worry over becuase we are given so much to worry over and nature usually takes care of itself..

I wish I could put my babies in the coop. Not here in Michigan though....50 mile an hour winds, SNOW in the forecast...generally crappy weather predicted for the entire week.....

Where are you Spring? I miss you............
