Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is where to post this. I've posted before about my chicken with a bamboozled leg.

We finally moved the chick outside and I have tried what I could to help the chick out. I've binded the leg, put the chick in a sling(it flipped itself out), doing a makeshift hobble to try and correct the leg. It just seems to be getting worse and now on the "good" leg, the toes have begun to curl. When trying to move, Applesauce uses their wings to balance and it causes them to flop down and lose their balance all the same.

From googling, I honestly think it may be mareks disease and I know that we had another chick with messed up legs that also passed about a month ago. None of the other chicks from the brood have crooked legs, so that's why I've been iffy on assuming this is what's going on with my dear Applesauce.

I'm asking if anyone has ideas on how to put the little chicky down. My mom thinks we should "let it go naturally" though at this stage, that would be torture since Applesauce would die of hunger or dehydration. My dad is old school(not sure if he does it or has my grandpa do it, which might be worse) and he's been joking about "hitting the head on a tree." I don't have the heart to do it myself, but I know my dad says that to me to irk me. I think if he does do it, he'll take a hatchet and decapitate my chicky. Is there a more humane and "easy" less painful way to put down a chick? I've read about cervical dislocation, though I'm unsure if my dad would be able follow the directions extremely well. I'm going to be dramatic and make my dad dig a hole for it so I can have a chicken funeral.

If I knew of others that have euthanized their chickens this way, or knew a vet that could, I would honestly do that. But I'm just a girl that got emotionally attached to my dad's one wonky chick.

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.
