Well Hello!
I loved your story..... We must be pretty close to you... I'm happy more of us are raising chickens... Ours are 10 weeks old. Here in Northfield Center, I think there are 3 others.... And 1 that I know of in Macedonia.... So much fun, I never thought I would fall in love with something feathered....
The deal in our family was, If my husband Jim built the hen house, I would take complete care of them..... I ordered 10 and got 12, in the mail.... Poor mailman..
Now the whole family is totally involved. Jim built the coop, and is still building that coop. It has barnsiding on the outside, a metal floor that goes a foot up the walls, loads of insulation, a group of 3 perches, 8 nesting boxes, 2 windows and a tack room on the side.... He's having so much fun! The 10 by 15 run has an electric fence wire and it's plugged in at night because of coytes and racoons and possems.
The girls just wander the yard during the day. At about 7'30 they march into the pen. At 9 they go in to roost... Well, gotta go, it's after 3 and I'm going to bed.... Once again, we enjoyed your story... Judy
