My Bantam baby...boy or girl?

I'm thinking cockerel. It is my understanding that hens have two distinct rows of feathers on fast feathering breeds. As yours is a bantam, it may or may not be a mix with fast feathering breeds so you may need to send pictures again in a month ;p I located an image online that shows what I'm trying to say about the distinctive rows of feathers on chicks that are of a fast feathering breed so will link that image. I'm nowhere near 'expert' in the subject, but happy to share what little I've learned along the way. My vote is cockerel, but all bets are off if it's not a 'fast' featherer :p View attachment 1771678

I am also no expert,it's fun to try and guess and try all the tricks and old wives tales too. So far we guessed boy from the quick look at feathers the day after it was born. Tried a pendulum on the egg and it said boy too. Shall see in a few months time. Happy either way :) Bantam roosters are my favourite

Bantam roosters are my favorite too. My flock consists of 2 Production Red hens (already laying) 1 Production Red hen about 4 months old and currently under quarantine (a gift from my neighbor), and a set of four 'teenage' bantams (1 cockerel, 3 pullets). My intention is to have the cockerel grow into a rooster and GENTLY care for all of the chicken hens on the property. Being much smaller than the production reds, I expect that he won't bloody them up like their ex-boyfriend did. I spent a lot of time doctoring the girls due to that mean rooster; he tore half of the comb off of one hen, deeply gouged a HUGE hole under the wing of another, and before he could harm anyone else I sent him to freezer camp. My girls have been without a mate for a few months. I further intend for the bantam hens to help me incubate QUAIL eggs if and when they go broody.

Bantam baby is almost definitely a boy :) Pictured here with his adoptive mommy
